We first fell for Laura Lea Bryant drooling over her food blog, LL Balanced, which promises comfort food inspired dishes that are delicious, yet nutritious and easy, to which we said no way! But after spending time with Laura Lea for our Modern Day Hobo X Nashville cast, we quickly became believers. Born and raised in Nashville and oozing with southern charm, Laura was kind enough to share two of her new recipes with us before they hit her new cookbook which she is currently working on.
"If I were trapped on a desert island, I would have to have peanut butter." -Laura Lea Bryant
Fun fact: Banana pudding is the only dessert that I simply CANNOT put down. As in, I have to squirt dish soap on it so that I don’t mow down the entire quart container! Combine this with my all-time favorite food, peanut butter, and you have trouble in the best kind of way! The good news is, these mini cheesecakes are made from real food ingredients, so they’re actually quite satisfying and filling. I can enjoy one (ok, maybe two) and stop...with a big ole’ smile on my face! Feel free to sub peanut butter with almond or cashew butter; it will still create same the creamy, dreamy texture!
YIELD: 12 CHEESECAKES
Crust Ingredients:
2 tablespoons melted coconut oil
1 ½ cup Quick 1-minute oats
¼ cup peanut butter
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ cup medjool dates, pits removed (approximately 3)
Pie Ingredients:
1/2 cup medjool dates, pits removed (approximately 6)
2 medium-sized ripe bananas (some spots but not mushy)
½ cup coconut softened coconut oil
½ cup unsweetened almond or cashew milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup unsalted unsweetened peanut butter
Coconut whipped cream for garnish!
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a 12-cupcake tin with liners.
Add oats to a food processor and pulse until it forms a flour, approximately 1 minute. Add remaining crust ingredients and pulse again until it forms a sticky crumble-consistency. Evenly distribute into each cupcake liner, approximately 1 ½ tablespoons. Press each into a firm even layer.
Bake crusts for 10 minutes, then remove and set aside to cool.
While crusts are baking, add dates to a mixing bowl and cover with hot tap water. Allow to sit 10 minutes. In the meantime, add 1 banana, coconut milk, vanilla and peanut butter to a high powered blender. Puree until smooth and creamy.
When dates are finished soaking, drain and pat dry of excess liquid and add to the blender. Puree again until smooth and creamy.
Slice remaining banana into 1/4" thick rounds and place 1 slice at the bottom of each liner. Top with an even layer of the banana peanut butter filling--it should come almost all the way to the top of each. Add any remaining banana slices as garnish, if you like.
Refrigerate mini pies for at least 4 hours before serving. I suggest topping with whipped cream (my coconut whipped cream or store bought). You could also top with chocolate shavings, sliced banana, chopped peanuts, or whatever else you like!
Pies will keep tightly sealed in the refrigerator up to 5 days.
ENJOY!

]]>Inside, all the Leather Lounge vibes came to life with layered rugs, a bohemian bench swing, macramé details, a living plant wall by Gardens of Babylon, hanging leather hides, and of course, our leather bags. The inspiration for the Hobo Leather Lounge comes from our roots, the iconic ‘70s leather shop where Koren Ray’s mom, Toni Ray, learned her craft. Georgetown Leather was a shop, but also the cool spot in town to be; locals would go there to hang out as the smell of leather permeated the air and music played. The Hobo X Nashville Leather Lounge was just that- people came to shop leather and ended up hanging out with us while enjoying drinks, bites, and music.
The living plant wall was a perfect backdrop for Karen’s "Oh My Goddess" Artisan Series Collection
The Hobo Mens Collection never looked so good
The leather lounge was the perfect spot to relax, enjoy live music, and shop leather
We kicked off the weekend with two parties in one night…it’s the Hobo way! First a VIP party hosted by Karen Elson and then an after party hosted by Ruthie Lindsey. Drinks and food flowed throughout the night, thanks to Urban Cowboy and Henrietta Red. VIP guests were treated to an incredible performance by Karen herself as we celebrated our launch of the "Oh My Goddess" Artisan Series collection.
Daniella Mason kept the live music going into the night as people socialized, shopped, and snapped selfies.
It was so fun reuniting with our Modern Day Hobo crew, including Jessica Robertson, Brailey Lenderman, David Perry and more! Their images were on display, so the photo ops were endless.
As the weekend continued, we met so many Hobo fans, some of which came in wearing their bags or pulled out their well-loved Hobo wallets. We also got to chat with new friends as they loved on the leather, tried on bags, and decided which one would be their first-ever Hobo.
Erin Rae, Katie Schecter, and Bantug brought live music to the lounge during the days, and we also had Matchless Coffee and Kindred Catering on site for the brew, bites, and cocktails. Last but not least, our very artistic Modern Day Hobo, Emily Miller, live-painted a beautiful bird mural throughout the weekend. A big shout-out goes to our incredible co-host, Native Magazine, for helping us bring the Leather Lounge to life, as well as Holly Williams of White’s Mercantile for letting us takeover her carport area for the weekend.
Thank you, Nashville!

Musician and sometimes model Katie Schecter’s words to live by? Stay Wavy. It's no wonder her dream journey is touring the country, the world, or even outer space- any place that will have her play her music. She keeps it pretty simple when it comes to lyrics and how she wants it to make people feel. "I write my best music when someone has done me wrong. When people listen, I just want them to feel". When it comes to her style, it is anything but simple. Her mantra? "Always wear something that starts a conversation...peacock."
A longtime Nashville native, Katie collects vintage clothing, including possibly the greatest collection of hot pants owned by any one woman. Why? Well, they make her look taller and let’s face it, her legs are pretty amazing! We can’t forget her covetable collection of vinyl, too. Since she loves music and we are dying to know what is on her go-to playlist, we asked Katie to share it with us.
"This playlist is a compilation of sonic treasures by some of my most favorite artists. It will have you swaying, but there may be a tear in your eye while you do. I dig old souls and sounds that would have been good at any point in time; and they better pack a punch. On a scorching hot day, this will be the cool breeze that’ll bring you to your knees." - KS

Seriously, Karen Elson is going to be part of our Modern Day Hobo Series Nashville Edition and create a limited-edition Artisan Series collection? We thought too good to be true, but then it happened. So much has been written about this woman who has graced the covers of magazines around the world. Her outer beauty is obvious, and we found out firsthand that her inner beauty is even more captivating. Karen uses her influence to speak up for issues that matter to women around the world, the song lyrics she writes are emotion-filled and her first love, well, that is being a mother.
Karen with Sable Wristlet
Why Nashville:
It was a whim, I was on a road trip through Nashville and said "I’m going to live in Nashville" and that’s what I did, moved here 12 years ago. Why I stayed in Nashville? The city grew on me. There’s something charming and supportive about the women here. The women I know here have become some of the greatest friends I have ever had. It’s also a great place to raise kids.
Music Style:
That is such a hard question. I am sure other musicians could nail it in a minute, but for me it is a lot more esoteric. I don’t think about "this is how I want my music to sound". It ends up sounding a bit haunted, dark and folk-ish, and I am going to keep going with that.
Creating Music:
I need space and silence to make music. I need to strip myself emotionally bare. I sit in my living room with my amp and guitar and just daydream. For me, creating music is very personal and very introverted, unlike the character I play as a model. Music is much more of a shy process for me. I am passionate about that because it’s a very real side to my personality.
Motherhood Means Absolute Joy:
The greatest gift of all things is to be a mother. I have 2 kids and they are quite literally the light of my life. Wherever I am in the world, whatever it is I am doing, I’m always a mother. I can’t get carried away with things because I always know where my grounding is and where my roots are, and that’s being a mother.
Personal Style:
Over the years it has evolved so much. And at the moment, if I get quite real, in light of the things that are shifting in the world, in light of #MeToo and Time’s Up, I am finding myself gravitating more towards clothes that feel powerful and less things that put me in an archetype of frail femininity.

]]>"Our Live The Code philanthropic platform was inspired by the heritage of the American Hobo who lived by a very specific code around respect, kindness, citizenship and community. We are equally inspired by the many organizations in our community that go above and beyond to live the code and make a difference. This is how David and I strive to run Hobo every single day and the legacy we wish to create." - Koren Ray
A few months back we released a limited-edition mini leather tote, Vagabond, in a variety of Hobo hides; perfect for toting your lunch or running errands. Created using limited-quantity leftover leather from past seasons, these cute little totes helped us reduce waste and provided a vehicle for us to raise money for an important cause. To-date, all Vagabond purchases have supported our Live The Code mission because in celebration of the new product we committed to donating 100 lunches to a local homeless shelter we care about: Light House Shelter in Annapolis.
As you can see from these images, we had such a fun time getting the whole Hobo family together to assemble the lunches. From the grocery store to the kitchen to the drop-off of the lunches, we were able to create many team-bonding memories while giving back to our community. Every day, Light House hands out 200 lunches to people in need. We are so impressed by their heart for the city of Annapolis and we love supporting them any chance we get.

]]>"Nashville is a city that has stayed true to its roots for decades and one that is overflowing with folks we like to call Modern Day Hobos. See for yourself..." - Koren Ray
To plan for the Leather Lounge, we spent some time in the city that we love, getting to know the local spots and spending time with some amazing people that call Nashville home. We hung out in 12 South a good bit since that is where we are putting down temporary roots in a few weeks. The charming area quickly became our favorite place to be from coffee at Frothy Monkey, to vintage shopping at Savant, ice cream at Jeni’s and so much more.
Below you will find a mini travel guide to Nashville for what to do in 12 South. Of course, if you visit the first weekend of April, the #HoboLeatherLounge must be number one on the list!
Coffee lover? Frothy Monkey must be your first stop. There very well could be a line out the door, but we promise it is worth every moment. If you are like us and end up wanting their coffee every morning at home, grab a bag of Frothy Monkey coffee beans from our Makers Market. Also, check out their guide to pour over coffee to learn how to do it their way.
Founded and owned by Holly Williams , White’s Mercantile is a must-shop for cool, unique, quality goods, handpicked by Holly herself and inspired by favorite things she has discovered while on the road as a musician. As Holly says herself, White’s is a "general store for the modern-day tastemaker." The vintage exterior of a refurbished gas station sparks nostalgia to an old general store, so you know you are about to enter an Americana atmosphere that is like no other. You could browse for hours, lost in the displays of leather-bound journals, plaid shirts, denim jackets, cookbooks, throws, hats and so much more. It was within moments of being there that we knew we had to chat with Holly about Hobo coming to town for the weekend and laying down temporary roots at White’s.
You MUST (and we repeat, MUST) pick up an ice cream cone at Jeni’s. Hobo’s Creative Manager and PR Specialist aren’t even huge sweet tooth people, and this was seriously a magical experience for them… it’s that good! The smell of waffle cones wafts out the door, physically pulling people into the store and causing a long line. Just practice patience and the line will move, we promise. We highly recommend the gooey butter cake flavor and, of course, on a waffle cone.
Flower fans, rejoice. Your bloom dreams are about to come true! Amelia’s Flower Truck is pretty hard to miss, as it is the cutest vintage truck with a back full of beautiful blooms. With your ice cream cone in-hand, stop by Amelia’s and the founder, Mattie (who is a Hobo fan herself!), will help you curate your selection of flowers and wrap them up in brown paper tied with string.
From vintage concert tees to perfectly worn-in denim, well-loved leather boots, flowy dresses, vintage leather belts, and a Navajo jewelry collection that is like no other, Savant Vintage is a dream destination for ‘70s loving souls with an appreciation for vintage treasures. We can’t forget the epic vintage rugs, too. They were so great that we had to drop our Breezy crossbody down for an Instagram moment.
Plus, the shop owner and vintage curator, Beverly, is as cool as they get! She will be the stylish one behind the counter, most likely with a vintage cowboy hat on.
Thanks for reading and we hope you make plans to visit Nashville soon! Or, if you live there, come visit us in April @ White’s Mercantile. Hope to see you there!
]]>We don't like to play favorites, but we not only love Nashville, we truly love Jessica Robertson, the artisan behind HONOR | OF. Standing outside over a caldron mixing her potion of flowers, bark and moss that she scavenges for (each creating their one-of-a-kind color) is where you will find Jessica most days creating her art and collection of hand-dyed silk scarves and farmer’s market totes.
Jessica is truly one-of-a-kind herself, whose warm spirit and connection to nature drew us in immediately. Shop items from her collection in ourMakers Market keep reading below to learn all her favorite spots in Nashville. – Hobo
Jessica Robertson here! I am so excited to share my favorite spots in Nashville with you. File this blog post under "travel guides" and book a trip to this city I call home. xx
Local Thrift Store I frequent almost weekly; I grew up with the "one man’s trash is another man’s treasure" mentality and something about browsing thrift stores calms me.
BONUS PERK: By purchasing previously loved items, it not only gives them new life, but hopefully will make an impact on the world of fast fashion and reduce waste in the long run (fingers crossed).
My most favorite local bakery / breakfast stop. It’s my go to place to do business meetings, tackle web work, & OKAY, YES, TO ALSO indulge on their delicious pies (lemon lavender is my favorite!)
It was here that I first experienced how art could make you feel in person. The thoughts, feelings, and solitude of roaming from one work of art to the next, is one of my most favorite things to do in Nashville. The Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, and Degas exhibit is about to begin through the spring, and I cannot wait to check it out!
Hands down, my favorite book shop in all of Nashville currently. It’s been here since the mid-90’s and is packed floor to ceiling with over 40k books—It's pure heaven. I could spend hours in here.
This is my ultimate refuge even on the coldest/ dreariest of days. Leah and Joel have created such a haven with this unique and healing space. (Ahem, no laptops allowed!) Serving the most delicious homemade teas and kombucha in town, they are very serious about sourcing the most quality herbs while being mindful and respectful of growing practices for our precious planet earth and preserving the integrity of incredibly healing plants.
]]>David with Zeppelin Duffle and Campion Messenger
Things that are made to last, possessions that lack an expiration date, design intent that prioritizes functionality, quality never being an accident…" When we first heard David so beautifully speak (cue the British accent) about his passion and his business model for the company he founded, The DSP Group, he had us. We too subscribe to creating leather goods that only get better with use and wear, the kind you hang onto for years to come, so we wanted to learn more from a purist like David.
What do you love about slow fashion?
DP: Slow fashion, for me, celebrates the quality of not only the fabrics and construction of the product, but also the people who made them.
Vintage is having a moment with a new generation, why do you think that is?
DP: I owned a couple of vintage stores in England in the 90’s and our biggest clients were always students. The younger generation has always had an affinity with vintage, partly because of the price points (well, maybe not nowadays), but also because they can score something unique, one-of-a-kind. I don’t think that’ll ever change.
Why is quality always important?
DP: But if your intent is to make something where quality is of the utmost importance, then the design, sourcing and manufacturing process will be different, and the product will likely stand the test of time. Anything made with leather and is quality, gets better with use and wear
Advice for people to participate in the slow fashion movement?
DP: Choose quality and intent over mass produced goods that are destined for landfills. The brands that spend time and money producing great designs deserve your support.
Why did you choose that duffle bag?
DP: For the function, it looks great, and I can make it bigger if needed.

]]>If you are anything like us, nothing happens before coffee. Like all else at Hobo, we like to keep our coffee style authentic and crafted, no simple drip for us. When cold brew came along, we were ready to sip and tell. Our trip to Nashville led us to local purveyor Frothy Monkey and after one taste we were hooked. Check out their simple guide below to the perfect pour-over cup of joe (hot or cold) then take a click over to our Makers Market to order some up. Enjoy! - Hobo
Hey Hobo readers, Frothy Monkey founders here to talk about the art of the pour-over!
We love to use the pour-over method when it comes to coffee. The Kalita Wave is our item of choice, because the flat bottom dripper allows water to meet a wider coffee bed, while the holes in the bottom of the dripper promote an even extraction. The Kalita Wave method is simple and creates the perfect cup of joe in less than 5 minutes…yes, please!
HOT POUR-OVER
PREPPING THE KALITA
Once your water has boiled, pour some water in the center of the paper filter to eliminate any papery taste and warm the brewing vessel. Pour out the water and add 24 grams of freshly ground coffee (grind medium-fine; like granulated table salt) in the filter. Shake the dripper to level the coffee grounds.
THE BLOOM
Set the Kalita Wave on your scale and tare to zero. Start your timer and pour 50 grams of hot water over the grounds. The goal is to get all the grounds wet on the first pour. Allow the coffee to sit for 30 seconds. We call this the "bloom" or "degassing" phase.
FINISH & ENJOY
Continue to periodically pour hot water in a spiral pattern until you reach 400 grams. Avoid pouring directly on the side of the dripper. When the coffee begins to slowly drip, remove and discard the filter. The total brew time should be between 2:30-3:00 minutes. Pour into a pre-heated mug and enjoy.
ICED POUR-OVER
PREPPING THE KALITA
Once your water has boiled, pour some water in the center of the paper filter/dripper over a sink and not into the brewing vessel. Add 200 grams of ice to the brewing vessel and add 33 grams of freshly ground coffee (grind slightly finer than the hot recipe) in the filter. Shake the dripper to level the coffee grounds and place back on the brewing vessel.
THE BLOOM
Set the Kalita Wave on your scale and tare to zero. Start your timer and pour 65 grams of water over the grounds. Stir gently with a spoon for a few seconds to agitate. Allow the coffee to sit for 40 seconds. This will help brew the coffee a little longer.
FINISH & ENJOY
Continue to periodically pour hot water in a spiral pattern until you reach 300 grams. Avoid pouring directly on the side of the dripper. When the coffee begins to slowly drip, remove and discard the filter. The total brew time should be between 2:30-3:00 minutes. Allow all the ice to melt before serving over fresh ice.
When it came to curating vintage finds for the market, we knew that the duo being Nashville Dry Goods were the people to speak to. Ameila and Imad collected the coolest finds for our market including unique vintage leather belts, vintage leather purses, and the coolest vintage leather cowboy boots for women.
If you’ve shopped our Makers Market, you know that the vintage items sell out fast. Until now, we’ve only ever sold vintage bags, so the belts and boots are a first. Inventory of these one-of-a-kind pieces are limited, so snag these goods before they are gone!
We love vintage leather bags, because each one has their own history and story to tell. A few marks and scratches, yes, but those are proof of a life lived well. Leather goods only get better with use and wear and become even more beautiful with time.

]]>It all started at a cocktail party over wine...Koren and Pamela instantly connected over their shared passion for woman-owned businesses and the desire to create beautiful possessions. Just like that, the Hobo X Pamela Love collection idea was born.
Inspired by the piercing culture of the '80s and '90s, the minimalist designs and smooth hand of leather made the perfect blank canvas for natural stones.
New Yorker, Pamela Love, began making jewelry in her Brooklyn apartment in 2007. Since then, she has created a full production facility and design studio in Manhattan’s garment district. Pamela has partnered with Hobo to create a limited-edition collection. The handbags feature one-of-a-kind bar piercings with semi-precious stones on three classic Hobo designs – an ode to Pamela’s signature style.
For every bag sold, Hobo will make a donation to BARC Shelter as part of our #LiveTheCode platform.

The most-talked-about moment of the evening was the live tattooing by Saved Tattoo’s artist, Virginia Elwood. There was a line during the entire party of people waiting to be inked by Virginia!
Stay tuned for Hobo’s next destination! We plan to continue our journey of laying down temporary roots in cool cities across the country.
]]>Introducing the Hobo Artisan Series, a celebration of the craft of leather touched by female artisans whom we love. Our very first Artisan Series features NYC tattoo artist, Virginia Elwood of Saved Tattoo.
Virginia took the art of tattooing to a curated group of our Vintage Hide leather bags, creating the limited-edition Inked Hide collection featuring the Vida wristlet clutch, Rozanne tote bag and Larkin crossbody bag.

Why tattooing?
V: I was obsessed with tattoos since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until my early 20’s that I even considered trying to become a tattoo artist. There weren’t many women tattooing back then, so it truly never felt doable, but I went for it anyway and never looked back.

V: I have so many tattoos, I tend to consider it just one big bodysuit, but my favorite is the one on my hand that I share with a group of friends.
If not a tattoo artist, what would you do?
V: I really love what I do and can’t imagine being or doing anything else.
